This pattern is designed for use with 1 skein of our Alpaca Silk Dk yarn. Shown in colorway: Pewter. Choose any colorway you like, though.
SIZE : Approximately 5" in height from brim to crown, and 14" circumference at base of body, blocked and unstretched. Will stretch to fit a variety of baby heads and instructions are provided for altering the size.
NEEDLES: US Size 5 (3.75 mm) 12" circular needles and/or DPNs.
Notes From the Designer:
•A baby hat makes a great quick gift for a newborn or soon-to-be newborn! Knit in an alpaca/silk blend, this hat negates any potential wool allergies and still keeps baby's head warm and snug.
•A simple textured pattern adds interest and won't compete with your color choice. Stick with a neutral or solid color, or go wild with a bright variegate!
•Pattern is sized for newborns and small infants, but includes instructions for modifying the circumference to fit a range of heads. You could easily turn this into an adult-sized hat so you and baby can play matchy-matchy!
•Yarn is held double throughout for added warmth.

Darling and fun, easy project! Getting ready to knit one for a Great Niece in-law! And her big sister!! And probably add a flower or two!!
Adapted to use up sock weight yarn from EFA. Using US 2, cast on 96. After rib, changed to US 3 for body; repeat rounds 1-6 six (6) times, ending with round 1 as indicated in original pattern. Waiting for removable button. Finished size: 5-1/4” (*Crown to Edge*) x 12” (*Circumference*) - very stretchy.
I think this is an adorable hat. I love that it only takes one skein of yarn.
Looking forward to trying this pattern!
I have two new grand babies coming in the next few months and loved the looks of this hat. I am in the middle of knitting a second one now. It is a very clearly written pattern . I am enjoying the simplicity of the pattern and the nice lines of the hat. Very nice pattern! Thank you!
