Original Version: Expression Fiber Arts Pearlescent Worsted yarn

The original version used five skeins (1023 yds/936 m) of our Pearlescent Worsted yarn in the color Mother of Pearl.

If those colors aren't available, any from this category will work.

NEEDLE:

Both Versions: US size 8 (5.0 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

SKILL LEVEL:

Beginner: Perfect for those who are just beginning or have knit a project or two. Stitches/skills include knit, purl, and basic color changes.

Notes from the Designer:

Inspired by a shawl I made for my mom when I first learned to knit. Cozy and comfortable and oh-so easy to make, you’re sure to love working on this wrap. Not sure if you have enough yarn? Have no fear! Just stop when you run out or yarn or get bored working on it. Ahhhh… perfection!

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial showing how to knit this pattern.
  • The pattern can be easily adjusted. To make it wider, CO additional stitches. To make it longer, add additional rows.
  • To make a scarf, cast on 28 stitches, and follow the pattern. On Row 10, purl until 7 stitches remain. You’ll need approximately two skeins of yarn.
  • To make a blanket, cast on 200 stitches, and follow the pattern. On Row 10, purl until 7 stitches remain. Depending on how large you want the blanket, you’ll need six to eight skeins.
  • The new color always begins on a Row 11 (all-knit row), with the two-color stripes composed of a Row 11 followed by a Row 10. This means you’ll have an all-knit row that’s followed by a knit-purl-knit row, and all the yarn switching/carrying will occur on the same edge throughout.
  • The first and last solid blocks are slightly longer than the inner three, as the first and last blocks include the garter stitch border and no extra stripes.
  • Carry the yarn loosely up the sides when working the color change rows.

Great relaxing pattern
5 Stars

I found this pattern when I was researching beginner patterns to teach new knitters. I decided I needed a relaxing pattern in between all the ones that take so much training (Etude No. 6, I'm looking at you!) and this is just what I needed! It's a joy only counting stitches and this is going to be a beautiful piece when I'm done.

Love the classic simplicity!

The simplicity of this classic design is wonderful. While I love texture and lace patterning, having a simple classy design is wonderful!

Haven't knit this up but love the simplicity and scrumptious yarn available on Expression Fiber Arts site. Plus side is they offer several free patterns of which this is one of them. Will definitely keep following this wonderful site and placing a yarn order soon. Yarn is absolutely gorgeous.

I am excited to start a project with this pattern - I want to do a shawl, but not sure I am ready for a "fancy" one yet

Just love this
5 Stars

I just love this pattern . It's really easy and it's easy for someone like me. It's taking me a long time to do because of the pain I am always in . And now I have vertigo really bad and the double vision is driving me nuts. I will update this once I get mire done. But if I can do it any one can. I am have only been knitting for a short time and I am teaching myself. With the help of books and you tube videos that this site has done is great.

Lovely Shawl

I can hardly wait to start this beautiful shawl!

Simple Yet Elegant
5 Stars

This is one of those "Go To " Patterns that a knitter will "go to" whenever you need a gift for someone or just to give yourself a little lift. You could make it casual or dressy, and still retain its simplicity and elegance. All in all, pretty cool!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Fun Knit!

I just started my Mother of Pearl shawl pattern recently. I'm using the Mother of Pearl yarn that I had been collecting. It's beautiful!! This pattern is not hard to work at all...2 basic rows after the edging. I am having so much fun knitting this!

This is a great pattern. I am an advanced beginner for knitting and have been looking for a rectangular shaped wrap that the instructions were not over my head. I am not skilled at reading and understanding charts. They are a bit overwhelming to me right now. This pattern is great for my skill level. I can watch t.v. and talk to my family while knitting it and not mess it up. Even though it is going to take me quite a while to finish it, I am looking forward to have it ready for the fall and winter seasons. It is really a pleasure for me to knit this. I am enjoying it very much.

Can't wait to make it!!

I love the new pattern, as I do, all of your patterns. Am working on one of your patterns now, and then this one is next on my list. Can't wait to make it. Thanks for sharing Chandi!! Xx
