Notes from the Designer:
A simple lace stitch pattern in a light and open shawl design. It’s the perfect size when you want a little bit of warmth on a cool summer morning. This shawl was designed to provide just the right amount of warmth while you sit on the porch with a cup of coffee and look out at the mist rising in the distance. Misty Morning features a floating diamond pattern that allows the shawl to drape beautifully over your shoulders and a simple triangular shape that's worked from the bottom tip up using simple increases.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video demonstrating how to begin crocheting this shawl.
- The Original Version was made with two skeins of Luster Sport yarn in color Vintage Gray.
- The Updated Version shown here used approximately 576 yds/527 m total: Color A: 42 yds/38.5 m, Color B: 37 yds/34 m, Color C: 114 yds/104 m, Color D: 90 yds/82.5 m, Color E: 93 yds/85 m, Color F: 58 yds/53 m, and Color G: 142 yds/130 m.
- Shawl is worked from bottom up.
- As the shawl grows, the edges will begin to curl and become rounded. Blocking will create the straight edges shown in the sample.
- The beginning ch-1 of each row should be worked a little loosely. You may also need to work the first and last one or two stitches loosely if your edges do not stretch to blocked dimensions. Check often to ensure the sides will be able to stretch, and adjust these stitches as necessary.
- The ch-1 that begins each row is only for height and does not count as a stitch.
- The chart at the end of the instructions shows the basic pattern for the floating diamonds stitch. Chart does not show edge stitches.
- Pattern is separated into row sections for easy reading only.
- The original sample was crocheted with just one color. To make a single-color shawl, follow the pattern as written, but ignore the color changes.
- The updated sample used multiple colors and color changes to mimic the hues of a foggy sunrise. In many places, the old color is cut, but it is carried when it will be used three rows later.
- If making a single-color version, you may still want to alternate skeins to avoid an obvious color line on the finished shawl. Hand-dyed yarn can have differences that are nearly imperceptible to the naked eye, but they can be more obvious in the final fabric.
- If using highly saturated colors, you may want to check for colorfastness before beginning to avoid the possibility of loose dye particles settling on lighter colors during blocking.
