PERSEPHONE - a mottled deep gray/plum with a teal cast - in Greek mythology, Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter and is the queen of the underworld.
YARN - Yak-Silk (a 50, 50 blend)
-Creamy to the touch.
-Ultra-soft, like perfect baby's skin.
-Like a dream!
Properties of Yak:
This is yak down, the softest of yak fibers.
-Warm: It has incredible insulating properties, which allow the animals to survive at extreme temperatures.
-Soft: Incredibly soft... buttery is truly the word that comes to mind! Your fingers will thank you as you work with this!
-Strong: Surprisingly strong (stronger than wool), for durable, long-wearing projects.
-Breathable: Do you ever feel sticky in synthetic fibers? Not so with yak... it breathes! It wicks moisture away from your body and releases it into the air, thus allowing you to feel fresher (and smell better!).
-Anti-Microbial: It doesn't attract the little microbes that live on sweat, so your garment stays fresher longer and won't get all stinky. Yay!
Properties of Silk:
-Excellent Insulator: Amazingly, it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter (due to the fact that it doesn't conduct heat)
-Luster: Hello! Shine galore!
-Strength: Long-wearing, durable projects, baby!
-Vivid: Silk takes the dye like crazy... so the colors are rich and bold and saturated.
When yak is combined with silk, you get an amazing, SOFT, lustrous, luxurious, creamy, rich, vibrant yarn that is hard to ignore.
Projects made with this are sure to be adored and exclaimed over and kept for years on end. Do enjoy!
•Softly spun 2-ply lace weight (this is a wee bit thicker than some lace weights, so it's easier to work with, if you're a beginner. Yay!)
•Yardage: 630 m / 680 yd
•Weight: 95-100 g
•Recommended Knitting Needle Size: US 1-3
•Crochet Hook Size: B-D
Note: Each skein is a hand-created, unique work of art and no two skeins will be identical, even within the same dye lot. If working with more than one skein in a project, it is best to alternate skeins every other row. Despite every effort to accurately depict our product colors, actual shades may vary due to differences in monitor settings.
I've been refreshing the Yak Silk options for awhile, hoping either Persephone or Ice Cream comes back! The Persephone is even more gorgeous in the Yak than Luster! Would love to see more of these!
I can't stop caressing the yarn - its softness is unbelievable. I can't wait to start working on the shawl I have planned for this yarn. My only complaint is that there is no lavender shade as it appears in the picture on the website. The yarn I received is totally shades of blue which are still beautiful. All in all, I am very pleased.
