Star Train

$6.00

This pattern is designed for use with 1 Dried Herb Hues Luster Sport 7-Skein Mini Kit, which contains 7 different colors and a total of 1225 yards. You will have some of each color left over so you could make a matching hat if you like!

If that kit isn't available, choose any shades from our Luster Sport category (2 full size skeins will be enough yardage to make the pattern as it only uses 5.7 oz in total of sport weight yarn. You don't have to use 7 different colors.) Or choose from our kits here. Many of them will work for this pattern. Fingering weight would also make this beautiful shawl.

You have lots of options, but our 7-skein mini kits are ideal.

Notes From the Designer About This Shawl:

•This piece is a hybrid shawl/scarf. It's meant to be snuggly around the neck more than used as an actual shawl, so it's great for warmth without bulk.

•I'm taking a lot of inspiration from music right now. This piece is named after the Perfume song "Star Train," which is about believing in your dreams even when it seems futile. There's always someone who notices what you're trying to do, even if you don't see them. It's also about moving forward: no return tickets, just a one-way trip to the stars. Although it seems like there's a return trip in the color arrangement in this piece, I wanted to highlight the forward-only, one-way theme by changing textures at the widest point of the pattern, so the pattern switches from stockinette to garter stitch for the next leg of the journey.

•With the colors, rather than plain stripes to separate every change, I decided to use the Star stitch, partly because I really like Star stitch, and also to add to the feeling of traveling through the universe. The stars change to garter stripes eventually, because we move more into the concept of stars rather than actual stars. I've been thinking a lot about concepts lately. I think this is what happens when I work to music.

Such a pretty design with some different stitches that I haven’t yet tried. It’s going in the cue... and kind of hoping for the mini-skein kit to make an encore appearance... Chandi

I took advantage of the free pattern and also ordered a yarn set to knit it with. It looks like it will be a fun knit, and I love the colors that I bought to make it with!

I just recently purchased the pattern and haven't knitted it yet. But the pattern in PDF version was sent immediately and very easy to download to my Knit Companion on my iPad. Glancing at the pattern, it looks very easy to read and understand and I look forward to working on it.

I was quickly drawn to the striping of the Star Train Shawl. While I haven't started knitting it yet, I am going through my Expressions Fiber Arts to see which yarns I want to use.

This is my next project! I've read through the pattern and it looks very easy. I haven't been disappointed in one of Chandi's patterns yet! I've already got the Dried Herbs kit and this will be perfect for it.
