Tadaima

$7.00

This pattern is designed for use with 6 (7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9) skein(s) of our Superwash Dewy Dk yarn in colorway: Silent Moon. You can also use our Alpaca Silk Dk

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) / 43"(46", 50", 53", 56", 60", 63") circumference, blocked and worn with approximately 8" of positive ease. Shown in size 1 on a 35” bust.

You'll need 32" (or longer) circular needle in US size 8 (5.0 mm), US size 8 and 9 (5.5 mm) DPNs, one additional size 8 needle (straight, circular or DPN) for working 3-needle BO.

Notes From the Designer:

I wanted this piece to feel like a hug, something comfortable and cozy the wearer can fall into and wrap around themselves.

•I loved the idea of a tall curved hem that wraps around the body, so after some trial and error, I decided on a short-row hem to get the shaping I wanted. A little fiddly maybe, but the payoff is sooo worth it!

•Even though the body is meant to be a little oversized (and can be blocked out to be even bigger, if preferred), I didn't want it to be a potato sack, so I went with smaller armholes and sleeves than you normally find on a drop shoulder design, so the sleeves are more snug and not in the way.

•Some short-row shaping in the trim makes for a shawl-type collar that can be worn up or down but isn't ridiculously huge.

•As a final touch, I included thumbholes, so the sleeves can extend past the wrist and keep hands warm, too. I love thumbholes! I will sometimes buy clothes on the basis of thumbholes alone, so for me, this was the perfect way to finish this piece!

•I love the Japanese call and response that takes place when someone returns home at the end of the day. If someone else is already at home, they usually greet the returnee with the phrase, "okaerinasai," or just "okaeri," which is usually translated as "welcome home," or "welcome back." The returnee answers with, "tadaima," which usually translates as "I'm home," or "I'm back." It doesn't have quite the same ring to it in English, but I love the sentiment. I named this pattern Tadaima because, to me, wearing it is like being greeted upon returning home at the end of a long day. It's a warm and friendly hello that makes me want to say, "I'm home."

Although I have not had a chance to look at the pattern or search for yarn in my stash for this I just had to have this one. I may just have to break down and buy the yarn pictured too! My daughter loves sweaters like this and I love making things for her. She is definitely Knit-worthy! Thanks for a great pattern

Emily, you've truly grown with this pattern. My mouth fell open at the sight of it opening my email on Free Pattern Friday & had I not made the promise of no yarn purchases that pay day, I would've loaded up my cart too! Cheers Ladies (and Gentlemen) of EFA!

Emily you've outdone yourself once again. This sweater is simply beautiful. And the sentiment is so sweet. I lost the best hugger ever last year, and I think having this to wear will keep him forever hugging me. Thank you both for sharing your talents with us!
