Adventurous Beginner: This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include: simultaneously working with two yarns, carrying yarn up the side, purling three stitches together, and knitting and purling into the same stitch.
Notes From the Designer:
Featuring the Emerging Hues Kit in Resilient Sock, Ambling Way is a simple, rectangular shawl that features alternating sections of Bramble and Stockinette stitch. The playful bobbles of the Bramble Stitch appear to sit on top of a background of Stockinette, which creates a strong, linear design that emphasizes the gorgeous colors of the Emerging Hues Kit.
To knit this piece, you’ll begin and end with a 12-row Bramble Stitch border, while the body of the shawl is knit using both the Bramble and Stockinette stitches. You’ll cast on with C1, and complete the border and first pattern sequence before transitioning to C2 and eventually C3. After the midway point, you’ll return to C2, and then finally end with C1, which creates a symmetrical design.
Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to work the bramble stitch.
Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect yardage and size.
The length and the width of the shawl are both customizable.
- Pattern comes with written and charted instructions.

Absolutely GORGEOUS pattern! Thank you, Chandi and team!
Love this pattern! I have made a cotton blanket as a gift. They love it!
Easy to memorize pattern works up beautifully in Chandi’s gorgeous arm.
I like this shawl because of the alternating sections of Bobbles and Stockinette stitch. I like the design of the shawl and the colours. I think it's very plesant to work this pattern because of the simplicity and for the result is a beautiful peace of work, a beautiful shawl. I will make it for sure, soon. Thank you very much!
Shawl looks beautiful. Haven't started it yet so can't rate the pattern itself.
I've just started knitting this and loving it
straightforward directions. I like the variety of stitches used.
fairly easy to follow...trying it in a cotton blend for now
Very challenging as a beginner knitter, but I love a good challenge ending with the excitement of a beautifully finished knit product. Thank you again for these amazing patterns.
Beautiful pattern, Chandi! Thank you for sharing!
It's a great pattern, easy to understand
Love the pattern.
What a lovely pattern. I am using my own spinning and painting yarn Merino/silk and it is just fine for this shawl. Easy pattern for beginners and I love it!!!!
just started it im going to make it in one color way. it is a beautiful pattern and the video was helpful for the bramble stitch. easy enough for an ambitious beginer. i am very happy with the pattern and am excited to wear the finished product!
I downloaded this as a free down load after watching the video and as a brand new knitter with just the basic knowledge of stitches, I gave this a try. This is my first attempt at making something that is actually wearable. Chandi explained very well how to do the Bramble Stitch and I am doing very well on the pattern so far and I love it. But I will have to get the yarn that is suggested that she used. I am currently using an inexpensive bamboo/cotton blend 3 weight yarn just to try this pattern out and I think I have done well so far with it. I feel confident enough with this pattern now, that I can go ahead and purchase some of the better yarn that is available at Expression Fiber Arts. This is an easy beginner friendly pattern for which I believe is worthy of a better quality yarn. Truly a gorgeous pattern.
I am loving this pattern! It is my first "succesful" foray into lace knitting!!!

What can I say, expression fiber arts always produce beautiful patterns in gorgeous yarns. This is another one up to their VERY HIGH standards. Love it!
I love this pattern! The Bramble stitch is so beautiful and Chandi’s video tutorial attached within pattern gives clear instruction, making it appear easy for an adventurous beginner. Thank you for making it available free for a time!
I love this shawl; awesome that all I can say.
It looks like this would be a fairly easy pattern to follow. It will be exciting to see how well it comes out
I got your pattern to make this wrap and I ordered the yarn from you in the color way Copper Patina Hues. I’m thinking that this wrap would be a pretty fall wrap in these colors. I hope I will have time too make it then.
