MATERIALS:

Expression Fiber Arts Buttery Bulky Yarn

Sample used: 2 skeins each (3.5 oz/120 yds, 100 g/110 m) of Conch Shell (MC) and Marshmallow (CC).

Sample shown used approximately 416 yds (212 yds MC, 204 yds CC) total.

If those colors aren’t available, any from this category will work.

Hook:

US size K-10.5 (6.5 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Any size that is appropriate for the yarn selected. Refer to the tag/label for the recommended sizes.

SKILL LEVEL:

Beginner: Perfect for those who are just beginning or have crocheted a project or two. Stitches include single crochet, double crochet, and half-double crochet. Skills/concepts include working in back loops and color changes.

Notes From the Designer:

Keep it cozy with a thick, sumptuous cowl. Create rich texture and shape with just three basic crochet stitches worked in back loops. Add stripes by changing colors every two rows, carrying unused colors up the side. A single seam completes the circle, or you can simply crochet the first and last rows together. With a larger circumference at the shoulders and a smaller circumference at the head, this protective cone is reminiscent of the beautifully striated, conical shells of conidae, or cone snails.

  • Click the Videos tab to learn how to crochet this cowl.
  • To adjust the size of the cowl, you may add or subtract repeats of rows 2 and 3, ending on a row 3.
  • When changing colors, carry unused color up the side, twisting yarns as needed. Do not break off colors unless instructed to do so.

Bulky yarn

The bulky yarn isn't available actually. I'm missing a mashmallow, I only have half of my project completed. I love this pattern.

Such a fun, easy pattern. Crochets up extremely fast. In fact, I decided this is the pattern I am going to use to teach my grandchildren, ages 8 and 10 years old, the love of crocheting.

Such a fun, easy, pattern. I needed a quick gift. This did the trick and it looks fabulous. Will also use this pattern to teach 2 of my grandchildren how to crochet. Easy enough for them to introduce them to crocheting. They are 8 and 10 years old.
