Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk DK Yarn

Sample shown used 3 skeins (230 yards/ 3.5oz)

Total yards used for this sample: approximately 532 yards.

Needle:

US size 8 (5.0mm)

Any size that is appropriate for the yarn selected. Refer to the tag/label for the recommended sizes.

SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate- This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include: lace sts, and charts.

Notes From the Designer:

This design is inspired by a variety of rose and is also a subtle nod to Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice!

The design motifs in this shawl remind me of little roses climbing up a trellis. What looks like flowers, is actually a traditional Shetland lace pattern, called “Cat’s Paw." How resourceful those early knitters were, and how thankful I am that their ingenuity has been passed down to us.

This is a crescent shaped shawl that is knit from end to end. As you repeat the pattern, the width grows. Then, after working a few repeats without increasing, the decrease rows are repeated. When blocking, you may choose to leave the shawl straight (as knit), or curve it into a crescent shape. I am partial to the latter, as it tends to hug your shoulders and makes it easier to wear.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to dry block this shawl. You'll also see how to work a few of the stitches!

  • Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect yardage and size.

  • The length and the width of the shawl are both customizable.

  • Pattern comes with written and charted instructions.

Errata: The key for the knit stitch (blank square) on the chart, should state that RS rows are knit, and WS rows are purled.

Excellent pattern, so much so, that I am willing to learn knitting for it since the pattern cannot be converted to crochet.

I found it very difficult to follow, markers not indicated clearly reuniting. #of stitches and lead to much reknitting. Maybe the charts were better, idk. after figuring it out, I settled in, love the shawl, gorgeous yarn.

I am a novice-ish knitter and this was my first lace shawl. (Needless, to say the woes and worries of understanding lifelines). I was worried about picking lace knitting, but this design is easy, well written and has the entire shawl broken into easy to understand bits. Thank you again for this pattern ! I can't wait to start my next shawl : )

I received this patter as a freebie; it was my introduction to Expression Fiber Arts. I gave it several attempts before I decided I'm apparently not as good a knitter as I thought! I loved the pattern, and maybe someday I'll attempt it again. But it is beyond my capabilities at this time.

Purchased this yarn for the Seren pattern and can't wait to get started. This yarn is luscious and beautiful. Always pleased with Chandi's dyes & especially the yarns. Even though the pattern is for knitters (I'm a crocheter :) ) the pattern is very well written. Kudos to the designer as well. Love the photos of how it is elegant but simple. thank you!!

Just cast this on and so far I am in love with this lovely and interesting pattern. I love that it gives both fully written out, row by row instructions as well as well written charts for each phase of the pattern. I almost never make a pattern twice but I’m already thinking of other yarns I can use to make this one again. A winner in my book.

I have been setting myself up for future projects, and Darcy is a smashing addition. It is gorgeous in the color Candy Apple. However, I love the color Coral , and yours is a beautiful shade in the Alpaca Silk DK. I have never been dissatisfied with a purchase. It always comes well packaged, and in reasonable time. Even as a preorder item.
