Shown in Charming Hues kit in Colors A (purple), B (plum), C (teal), and D (black)

If not available, any yarn from this category will work.

The sample shown used approximately 1,021 yards total.

Hook:

Any size that is appropriate for the yarn selected. Refer to the tag/label for the recommended sizes.

The sample shown was worked with a US size I-9 (5.5 mm) hook.

SKILL LEVEL:

Beginner: This pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to combine basic stitches to create a simple filet crochet pattern. Skills/concepts include the option of learning foundational single crochet and beginning double crochet stitches.

Notes From the Designer:

The deep colors and bright shine of our Sparkle DK yarn inspired this stellar wrap. Simple double crochet and chain stitches create a filet crochet starburst motif. The star-forming region of 30 Doradus is one of the largest located close to the Milky Way. About 2,400 massive stars exist in the center of 30 Doradus, which is also known as the Tarantula Nebula.

To refine the edges, try replacing a foundation chain and single crochet base with foundation single crochet stitches. A video tutorial is available. Instead of starting double crochet rows with three chain stitches, which can leave a gap, use a no-turning-chain beginning double crochet stitch instead.

Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial of this pattern! You'll learn how to work a double crochet, chain space, beginning double crochet and foundation single crochet.

Errata: Row 28: Rep row 8. Break Color C, Join Color D.

This is absolutely stunning and while I can't wait to make it, I'm still quite new and don't read patterns very well yet. I save the ones I want to be able to do someday soonish;) Thank you for making it possible to have such beautiful patterns..by you giving them away on Fridays. All I could think was how sweet of her and I can't wait to be able to do them! Again thank you ?

I'm not quite finished yet, but ti love this pattern. I used buttery sport and the yarn is so soft. I would definitely use it in another pattern.

I used the suggested Sparkle DK for this project-Charming Hues. After I started this pattern, I was afraid I had gotten in over my head. It is a nice, long shawl and takes some patience to count stitches and complete each row. I may or may not have fudged a few stitches, after forgetting to chain when a stitch was skipped... :) However, I persevered the challenge and completed the project, and although my green skein short, I continued with the black yarn (the green was so very dark that the change was discernable), and it looks amazing! I haven't blocked it yet, but I am very pleased with the end results.

Adore this

The title says it all! I adore this pattern. So glad it comes with a layout picture. I sometimes have a difficult time getting the written pattern through my head. I get mixed up, just seeing the picture of its stitch placement, makes it easy for me. Love this.

Doradus Shawl
5 Stars

I have not yet made the shawl, but I have made a sample swatch to practice the pattern and I love it! It is super simple, but the effect you get from the spaces is stunning. Most of my shawls are for gifts, but I will definitely be making this one for myself. The video was also very helpful for the beginning double crochet. It truly makes a difference in the neatness of the edges. Thank you!
