SKILL LEVEL:

Stitches include six different stitch patterns consisting mainly of combinations of single, half double, and double crochet. Should be comfortable working with long repeats and/or able to read charts.

Notes from the Designer:

This crescent shaped shawl is designed for three gradients of Amal Fingering. The bits of linen in the yarn provide a little extra texture and give the shawl a slightly rustic look. The strongest color should be used in the border, as it is what will be most prominent when wearing the shawl.

Four different stitch patterns are used in the body of the shawl. Each stitch pattern includes shell stitches, which ties the designs together. By stacking the shell stitch combinations in three areas of the shawl, an angular edge is produced. The stitch patterns also gradually progress from a fairly dense fabric to a slightly open lace design. The shawl is finished with an easily worked border design that creates a pretty, scalloped edge.

  • The sample shown used approx. 1015 yds (928 m) total: A) 390 yds (357 m), B) 380 yds (347 m), and C) 245 yds (224 m).
  • This pattern is designed for three gradients of one color. You may choose to use contrasting colors instead. To avoid color bleeding during the wet blocking, I recommended first checking the colorfastness of your yarns.
  • Rows 50-53 form a fairly dense band. Do not work them too tightly, or the curve of the shawl may be restricted. If you tend to crochet tightly, consider going up to a larger hook for these four rows.
