Notes From the Designer:

Embrasser is a bolero-style wrap that features a diamond-shaped lace body and cuffs at each end. It can be worn as a wrap, but also offers the opportunity to cover your arms when worn as a bolero. The body is worked flat as a long rectangle before both short ends are joined in the round to prepare for the single crochet cuffs. The body section includes an easy six-row repeat that only requires knowing how to single crochet, double crochet, and make chain stitches. Let Embrasser wrap your body like a gentle hug.

The new Signature Fingering yarn base is a blend of Baby Alpaca, Linen, and Mulberry Silk. It not only stands out for its softness and sheen, but will bloom with blocking, which makes it the perfect choice to celebrate Expression Fiber Arts’ journey as a company.

  • Click the Videos tab to view a tutorial on how to crochet the six-row repeating body stitch and how to wear this bolero.
  • Embrasser is a rectangular wrap that is initially worked flat. Two cuffs are added on each side after finishing the main body, which gives the wrap the shape to be worn like a bolero. The body section is constructed with a six-row repeat that generates the diamond lace stitch pattern. For the cuffs, you will first connect the two corners of the short edges on each side, and work a couple of inches in the round before finishing with a single crochet ribbing, which is attached via a chain to start off.
  • Because I am a tight crocheter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete the design and reach the desired measurements. To help you match your gauge, the unblocked gauges for the Leaf Pattern, Subtle Stripes Stitch, and the Single Crochet Rib Stitch are included here, as well:
    • Leaf Pattern: 30 sts and 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) with US F (3.75 mm), unblocked.
    • Subtle Stripes: 24 sts and 18 rows = 4” (10 cm) with US F (3.75 mm), unblocked.
    • Single Crochet Rib: 22 sc and 38 rows = 4” (10 cm) with US E (3.5 mm), unblocked.
  • When working the Leaf Pattern, the ch-1 sp is not counted as a stitch.
  • The pattern includes written instructions, as well as a chart at the end of this PDF.
  • The length of the bolero can be adjusted individually, but note that the instructions below use approximately 1566 yards (about 3.5 skeins of Signature Fingering). For a longer wrap, you might need additional yarn.
  • For bust sizes 40” and above, I suggest adding length to the body to ensure that the bolero can be worn in all the different ways. To determine the total length of the body, take your bust size and multiply by 1.8.
  • Ch 2 at beginning of rows and/or rounds does NOT count as a stitch. The first double crochet will go into the stitch containing the ch 2.
