Notes From the Designer:

The first in a series of shawl patterns that are meant to study an aspect of knitting, this pattern focuses on texture. Two different textures are repeated throughout the body until you reach the garter stitch border. This is a great pattern for beginners to learn about different textures using only knits and purls, but also good for more experienced knitters who just need a tv or knit night project!
•Sample shown in 3 colors, one for each texture, but you can work this pattern in as many or as few colors as you like! Go subtle or bold. Have fun striping or colorblocking each section.
•The inspiration for this series came from musical etudes. When I’m not listening to J-pop, I also enjoy classical music. For each etude, I’ll also offer a musical selection to enhance your knitting time; check it out if you like. For this pattern, try listening to “The Moldau,” by Bedrich Smetana. It was inspired by the Moldau River in Europe, and the ebb and flow of the music is meant to emulate the changing course of the river. It’s one of my favorites!
