Notes From the Designer:
•In this final etude, we explore two-color, slipped stitch knitting (also known as mosaic knitting). Choose high-contrast colors that pop, or low-contrast colors that meld to create a subtle effect, and have fun slipping stitches in this simple but classy brocade pattern.
•An asymmetrical triangle is one of my favorite shawl shapes, because you can stop whenever you get bored, or keep knitting for a larger shawl. This pattern is great for playing with size, and each section is easy to adjust, so you can work a longer or shorter Stockinette section or play with the brocade section to your heart’s content.
•In slipped stitch knitting, it is important not to slip sts tightly, as the resulting fabric might pucker. You might want to swatch the brocade pattern before casting on, to make sure you can create a fabric you like that has just the right amount of tension. Tight knitters might also want to consider going up a needle size during the brocade section.
•I saved one of my favorite musical pieces for last with this pattern. Try listening to the Prelude from Op. 28: XV. in D-Flat Major by Frederic Chopin, also known as the “Raindrop Prelude.” This is my favorite piece by Chopin, who is also one of my favorite composers. It sounds just like a spring or summer rain, beginning softly, then increasing in intensity as a storm rolls through, before tapering off as the end of the rain moves away and the sun returns. It’s a perfect piece for some contemplative knitting, and pairs well with the brocade pattern in the middle of the shawl. Sitting in a window seat, knitting and listening to Chopin, you could easily pretend that you’re the heroine of a Jane Austen novel!

Soft and Special! I just finished making the shawl. The pattern was very easy to follow and I liked changing to the brocade in the center. I used the pearlescent worsted and loved the softness of the fiber going through my fingers as I was knitting. Now that it is becoming cooler I look forward to wearing it on my shoulders and wrapped around my neck. I would definitely recommend the pattern and the yarn.
