1 skein of each color is needed (384 yd/351 m; 3.5 oz/approx. 100 g per skein).

The sample shown used approximately 1176 yds (1076 m) total – Color A: 227 yds (208 m), Color B: 304 yds (278 m), Color C: 342 yds (313 m), and Color D: 303 yds (277 m). 

If those colors aren’t available, any from this category will work.

Note About Gauge: The shawl does not work up into a true half-circle shape and requires rather rigorous blocking to get the final shawl into shape. It's best to focus on the unblocked gauge to ensure accurate yardage usage and to only use the blocked gauge as a loose guide since there may be a range of variability once the shawl is blocked into its correct shape.

Intermediate: This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include basic lace, drop stitches, color changes, and lace blocking.

Notes From the Designer:

Named in honor of mathematician Euclid, the shawl Euclidias features a mathematical half-pi construction with drop stitch rows. The color changes provide interest to the basic shape and design. This large shawl will surely envelop you in warmth and love. Its design intentionally works with a variety of yarn bases, weights, and needle sizes. The sizing is entirely customizable, too. Want it smaller? Stop sooner. Want it larger? Continue in the established pattern until you’re sufficiently enveloped. Knitters will get to work with drop stitches and yarn over increases. The simple color changes produce such a stunning result.

• For this pattern, gauge is a guideline. If you want more drape, go up a needle size. Less drape, down a needle size. Any deviance from gauge will affect the final size and yardage requirements. 
• The first slipped stitch of each row is slipped knitwise.
• All increases will happen with row of single yarn overs.
• All increase and drop stitch rows are worked from the RS.
• While the pattern is written for a shawl of a specific size, rows can be omitted or added to alter the size of the shawl, being sure to keep with the pi pattern.
• The number of rows to be worked corresponds directly with the number of stitches that were increased in the previous increase row. So, if three yarn overs were added, then three rows are worked before the next increase. If 24 yarn overs were added, then work 24 rows to next increase, and so on. 
• Drop stitch rows are worked halfway between increase rows – Row 6 of the 12 increase section, Row 24 of the 48 increase section, and so on. Drop stitch rows are treated as two rows through Section 6, and then treated as one row in each subsequent section. 
• I like to attach a stitch marker to the RS of the work as a visual reminder of the RS.
