SKILL LEVEL:
Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate - For those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include special stitches, seaming, basic garment shaping, and blocking.
Notes From the Designer:
Named for the goddess of calm seas, the Galateia (g-aa-l-AA-t-ee-aa) top is the sister pattern of the knitted Panopeia top. Galateia is a simple top that looks complicated. It can be easily adjusted to different lengths. You can choose to make a sleeveless version or a sleeved version, or make one of each. I found the stitches in this pattern to be calming and relaxing, and I hope you do, too.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to work the body stitch and the bodice lace stitch and how to attach the foundation single crochet to a current row.
- The top is made in two pieces (front and back) and is worked from the bottom up.
- The ch 2 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise noted. Do not work last stitch into the ch 2 unless otherwise noted.
- The lace portion includes a wide dc2tog. In order to know where to place the dc2tog, the stitch has been broken up into sections. The first half is the Beg dc2tog, and the second half is the End dc2tog.
- When working the lace section, you will be working multiple stitches into the space (or around the stitch) created by the dc2tog and skipping the ch 2, sc, ch 2.
- If lace portion is too ”floppy,” you may need to go down a hook size. Just keep gauge in mind.
- Crocheting a blocked swatch is important. The yarn and stitches used for this pattern tend to stretch in both length and width.
