Notes From the Designer:

Incantation is the crochet version of the knitted Conjure blanket. This blanket is easy enough for beginners who want to practice basic stitches and maybe learn a few more, while still keeping an advanced crocheter engaged with a variety of stitch combinations. Incantation consists of simple stitches of single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet, with some extended single crochet and puff stitches added in for texture. The yarn used is a chunky weight made of baby alpaca and fine merino wool, which provides the right amount of snuggly warmth.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to work each section, including all the stitches and stitch patterns.
  • The blanket does not have a border; therefore, an Alternative Double Crochet (alt dc) was used to begin many of the rows to create a clean, smooth edge. A chain 3 can be used in place of the alt dc, if desired.
  • Rows 2-30 on the Diamond Section will start with alt dc to allow for the appropriate stretch.
  • Check your width when starting and ending a new section. Changing to different stitches can cause a change in the width. If that happens, change your hook size either up or down to keep the width consistent.
  • To make wider, add multiples of 18 to the starting chain listed below. To make longer, add rows to each panel. Additional yarn may be needed.
