Adventurous Beginner: For those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include short rows with wrap and turn and slipped stitches.

Notes From the Designer:

Sir Charles Edmund Isham (1819–1903) was an eccentric spiritualist who owned Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire, England. In the 1840s, Isham began a garden rockery after a holiday in Germany where he saw miners carrying small figurines as good luck talismans into the mines. He purchased 21 terracotta gnomes, purportedly manufactured by Philip Griebel, and placed them throughout the Lamport Hall gardens. Isham seemed to believe in fairies and gnomes, as did many during the Romantic Movement, and Isham was convinced they came alive at night. His daughters were less enchanted and had all the gnomes removed upon Isham's death. (Legend says they shot the gnomes themselves with air rifles.) But one little fellow nicknamed "Lampy" survived; he had fallen into a crevice and wasn't rediscovered until the late 1940s. Lampy, the oldest known garden gnome, is on display at Lamport Hall and is estimated to be worth £2 million. The elongated wedges of this shawl are reminiscent of iconic gnome hats and are whimsically interspersed with stripes of sprinkles in colors often found in rock gardens.
