This pattern is designed for use with 1-2 skeins of our Resilient Sock Yarn in colorway: Ocean Mist. Choose any color you like, though. You'll need US Size 1 (2.25 mm) needles. You can use DPNs, a 9" circular or longer circular needle for the Magic Loop method. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.
About These Socks:
•Right twists intertwine to form a loose braid that runs down the front and back of these Western-inspired socks. Knit a pair for yourself and unleash your inner cowboy or cowgirl!
•Socks are worked cuff down with a heel flap and stitches are picked up for the gusset.
•Sample shown was knit in size S for a size US 5.5 foot and used approximately 320 yds of yarn from a 400 yd skein. Right Twists and cables eat a lot of yarn. If knitting for a longer foot or wider circumference, you may want to give serious thought to picking up a second skein of yarn so you don't end up playing yarn chicken on your second sock, especially if your gauge is different.
•These were inspired in part by the cable pattern, in part by the brilliant blue color used in the sample that immediately takes my mind to Big Sky Country, and in part by the tv show, which takes place on a cattle ranch just outside Laramie, WY. Normally I knit my socks on a US size 2 needle, which gives me a comfortable padding around the house gauge. With this pattern, I decided to go down to a size 1 needle for a firmer gauge, and throw in some extra Right Twist columns between the cable panels to make the sock more snug and hardwearing. I thought that if a cattle rancher was to wear a pair of handknit socks, they'd want more of a workhorse sock that wouldn't fall down in the boot or pill, but the sock should still have some flair.
•I'd like to think that these socks walk the line between workhorse and fashion, and could be proudly worn by any cowgirl or boy.

Such a fun pattern!
I absolutely adore this pattern! Though it's a little time-consuming with the intricacy of the cable patterns, there are lots of places you can modify the design for a quicker complication (like dropping some of the right twists along the sides of the sock as mentioned in the pattern) or inconspicuously add stitches to accommodate bigger/longer parts of the foot and take them away to slim the sock out where need be. It was very easy to split the stitches over DPNs and knit them that way without stitch markers, too. Would definitely recommend to a friend! For anyone with questions about what size to aim for in terms of your yardage, I ended up knitting a large to fit my (US) size 8.5 foot with a little wiggle room at gauge.

I love socks with a twist. These ones are interesting without being difficult to knit. What else could you want?
Laramie Knitted Socks
I'm so excited to finallly try to knit a pair of socks; using your lovely yarn, terrific pattern and your suggestions on how to knit them.
I like the socks. I have never done socks before. Little tricky. I to read and reread the pattern to do it right.
LARAMIE KNITTED SOCK PATTERN
I have not had a chance to start knitting this one yet, but I read the pattern completely through and didn't find anything that was confusing or difficult to understand. Until I actually knit it, tho, I will not be able to tell if the math of the stitch counts works out perfectly or not. With that said, I have never come across a pattern from Expression Fiber Arts that didn't. I will update/amend my review once I actually put needle and yarn to this pattern.
