Adventurous Beginner - For those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches and skills include foundation double crochet, chains, single crochet, double crochet, and making three double crochets together.
Notes from the Designer:
Makani is Hawaiian for "wind" or “breeze,” which is perfect for this light and breezy ruana/poncho pattern. The stitches used include chains, single crochets, and double crochets done in repeating sections, making this pattern perfect for a beginner. Both versions are worked lengthwise in two rectangles, which are sewn together, leaving room for the neck.
- Click the Videos tab to watch me make a mini version of this pattern, and I show you how to seam it.
- The ruana and the poncho are both made the same, so their yardages are the same. They are just sewn together differently.
- The pattern is started lengthwise and worked widthwise in two rectangles, which are then sewn together.
- The foundation chain can be adjusted with multiples of 4 + 1, which will change the length of the garment.
- The starting chain for each row does not count as a stitch.
- The single crochets in the lace section are worked into the chains, not around.

My daughter's been asking for some kind of swimsuit cover to wear this summer. She hasn't found any that the loves while shopping. So, I'm gonna make her one for her birthday with this pattern. That way she will be all set for next summer!
This seems an easy pattern . I am almost half done. First time I am going to stay focused and complete it. So far so could does not look like yours but I am confident that I am following the pattern. I am not going to judge until I finish blocking it. Usually, that is the part that I skip.
Can't wait to make this project
I have SO many wonderful patterns from EFA, and sad to say I haven't tried this one yet. BUT I will! I love the look, so elegant but somehow boho at the same time! Lovely!
It's a mermaid coming to shore from the ocean depths with a fishing net wrapped around her. What more can I say other than WOW!!
Something quick that is spectacular.
I haven't had a chance to make this yet, however, I have had several requests from friends and family that they would like me to make one for them. I hope to make one or two for Christmas presents.
Such a lovely cover up for the hot summer days. I have not done this one yet, i have read the instructions and watched the you tube tutorial and it looks easy enough to do for an adventureous beginner
I love this pattern. It's easy to remember and therefore I use it for all the boring occasions in life, like waiting at the doctor, at the bus stop etc. At the end, I will have a wonderful garment as I will sew it together as ruana.
