Notes from the Designer:

Mandisa means "sweet" in South Africa. The word is of African-Xhosa origin and epitomizes both the style and color of this crocheted top. I created this top as a sister pattern to my knit Keziah top. I hope you enjoy crocheting it as much as I did!

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a video on how to make the special stitches shown in this pattern.
  • The pattern uses three colors but can be made with more or fewer, if preferred.
  • This garment is worked from the bottom up. It begins with the waistband, which is crocheted back and forth length-wise and seamed. Then, stitches are picked up and worked around the side edge – once in the round and then in back and forth rows.
  • There are four main sections: the waistband, front panel A, front panel B, and the back panel. Each is worked separately and then seamed at the shoulders and sides.
  • Color Change Sequence: Once the waistband is complete, continue working in Color A for 2 more inches (5 cm). Then work 2 rows in Color B, 2 rows in Color A, 2 rows in Color B, and 2 rows in Color A. Then, drop Color A, and continue working in Color B. Work in Color B for about 4” (10 cm). Then, repeat the Color Change Sequence using Colors B and C. Drop Color B, and continue working in Color C.
