Notes From the Designer:

As I worked this shawl, a light rain tapped against the windows of my home. It was such a calming sound, that I decided to name this shawl Pluie Calme. In French, it means “calm rain.” Later, it reminded me of the warmth I enjoyed while wearing this shawl on a cold, rainy day.

This pattern is a soothing and fun design. The repeating rows are easy and relaxing, and once you get through a few repetitions of the 2-row repeat, it’s very calming and meditative. Quite rhythmic, really. Then you get short breaks in the form of transitions that keep it from becoming boring.

I hope that when you wear this shawl, you too are filled with calmness and warmth.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to crochet this shawl and make a miniature version.
  • This pattern has a RS and WS.
  • This pattern can be adjusted using multiples of 4+4 (4+5 for alternative cast-on). However, this will change the number of shells worked within a row.
  • To increase (decrease) the length of the shawl, you can either add (subtract) the number of shell sections worked or add (subtract) the number of times Rows 6-7 are repeated within each section.
  • The first stitch of each row will be worked into the base of the turning ch1 unless otherwise indicated.

I love the shells and the yarn. I'm self taught so I had to practice the beginning stitch ssc. Thanks for the video it help me so much. I love the way and the things you crochet, but I'm really getting spoiled with yarn.

Can't wait to make this shawl. I think I'll have to make more than one as they look so beautiful in one colour or multiple as per the photos.

What a lovely, yet simple pattern that works up beautifully. I held together mohair with cotton to create a light weight, but fluffy shawl that is light enough for a summer night and also warm enough for cooler weather with heavier clothing underneath. The little triangles of space would allow clothing underneath to highlight the pattern nicely.

This is a lovely pattern! It's calm--easy two row repeat--but not boring. The stitches make a beautiful texture. It's been my go-to project for watching TV.

This wrap is a beautiful "adventurous beginner" pattern. I love patterns that have such repeats as these; easy to replicate once you get the stitches down. Highly recommend this pattern to experiment beyond basic stitches.
