——————————————————————————————————————————

Queen Maeve was a warrior queen of Connacht in western Ireland sometime around 50 BCE - 50 CE. Some say she was real, some say she was just a myth.

I love reading mythology from different cultures. As an undergrad in college, I took classes in Greek and Roman mythology and philosophy and lost myself in stories about all the gods and goddesses of the region. I never lost my passion for myths and have been reading Irish and Norse stories. One of the things that I find extremely fascinating in Irish legends is the role of the woman.  Queen Maeve and the women of her time, had the power under the Brehon Laws of ancient Ireland to raise their own armies, hold their own property, and participate in the court system as lawyers and judges (just as we do today). Everything I have read about her gives me the impression that she was a very strong woman, making her a great role model.

That strength of character was the inspiration for the design of this cowl.
