SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate – This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include simple decreases, color changes, puff stitches, working a double crochet stitch two rows below, and moving yarn up the side without cutting.

Notes From the Designer:

Silva is Latin for forest, woodland, or garden. In keeping with the theme of the yarn kit, this shawl takes us through a garden theme in four repeating sections: the trellis, the grass, the flowers, and the garden wall. The first row of the shawl is the bottom right side, and then the shawl is worked with decreasing rows on one side. This causes the shawl to remain straight across the top, but still taper into a triangular shape.
  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to crochet several of the stitch patterns used in the design.
  • Approximately 840 yds/768 m total were used: Color A: 270 yds/247 m, Color B: 300 yds/274 m, and Color C: 270 yds/247 m.
  • In the pattern, you will be instructed when to cut the yarn and when to carry it up the side.
  • You can adjust the size by making a fhdc row in a multiple of 4 + 1.
  • Stitch decreases per section are as follows: 2 stitches per row for the trellis, 1 stitch per row for the grass, 1 stitch per row for the flowers, and 2 stitches per every other row for the garden wall.
  • The starting chain for each row DOES NOT count as a stitch.

Designed by Elisabeth Carr

I never hesitate to order something from EFA because I know it is a safe bet. I actually have never had a problem with a pattern. They are well written and easy to understand and the videos Chandi doe are amusing and further clarify instructions. I always watch them a few extra times after I feel I have decided on a pattern just to concentrate on Chandi's nails, earrings, and humor. I love the site and have referred people to it; some of them seasoned knitters. I am a better crocheter than knitter but still look at the patterns. Silva is a good pattern, I had no problems making the stitches look like they were supposed to.
