Notes from the Designer:

Sona is a simple, cabled hat with a ribbed edging. I tapped into my Irish heritage for this pattern and chose the Irish word Sona for the name. Sona (SUN-a) means happy, lucky, fortunate, and may fortune smile. As I was creating this design, I often found myself smiling and thinking about how fortunate I am to be surrounded with happy and supportive people. The word Sona is included in a proverb that reflects the sense of fortune I have found. This proverb is roughly translated as "the lucky man waits for the lucky moment.” My lucky or fortunate moment is now, and I am enjoying being able to share that fortune through my designs.

  • Both original version samples were made with our Dewy DK yarn in color Solitude. The Large size used 170 yds (155.5 m), and the Medium size used 138 yds (126 m).
  • Gauge is very crucial to this project. Take time throughout to make sure that your tension is consistent, and adjust hook size if needed.
  • Pattern is worked from top down.
  • The updated version of the pattern added three additional rounds before adding the edging.
  • The pattern uses the Magic Ring method to begin. Alternative beginning instructions are included.

I love it! Easy to follow, worked up quickly. I had been needing some inspiration and looking for a new pattern, I make chemo caps for my local hospital and I like to provide them with different varieties, sizes, shapes and colors. I will definitely be making a good many Sona hats for them, I'm on my second one ! Thank you Expression fibers and Kristina Smiley !

Cute Hat

I followed the guage, but the hat came out small... I must put all of my angst into my work as this happens with most patterns I try :D I love the pattern, though and will try again with a larger needle. Thank you :)

Lovely

Even though I messed up the stitch count on 2 of the sections, it still came out beautiful. I'll probably make more.

Sona Crocheted Cable Hat

Very well written pattern, easy to follow. Adorable hat. I used two strands of yarn since I am making hats for the homeless in my community so I had to play around a bit with rows, but it still worked out great. I will make others as gifts :-) Thanks for your generous heart!
