Notes From the Designer:
I made this shawl for my friend Sue Ellen, who was going through a rough time. In the past, she had expressed interest in pocket shawls, so I knew I had to make her one. Although there are numerous, beautiful patterns out there, none of them felt like her, so I just let my crochet hook take over. She loved the shawl and said it made her cry happy tears when she received it.
This pocket shawl is a simple design that uses single crochet, chain 1, and 2 double crochet together. It is easily adjustable in both length and width. However, make sure to purchase enough yarn if you want to adjust the size.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial, and learn how to crochet a miniature version of this pattern.
The overall size of the shawl can be adjusted by chaining an even number of stitches until you are 3” (8 cm) short of your desired length. However, this will affect yardage requirements.
The shawl is worked first, and then the ribbed border is worked around it.

I have not created one of these yet. I saw this one , and liked the cozy texture.
I love this pattern. I gave it a good try but realized my tension was off, and I was adding stitches at the end of the rows, so it was a mess. I took it apart and will re attempt after a surgery I am having and probably Christmas as I have too many projects on the go. Chandi is such a great teacher, there is no doubt I will master it.
I love this pattern. I was almost successful with it, but was off in tension and ripped it all apart. I will be definitely be giving it another try. I am fairly new with crochet and was adding stitches at the end of rows and then not doing enough at other ends. Chandi is a great teacher, and it was entirely me that messed it up. At the moment I have to many other projects on the go, but will be back to it I. The new year.
Greetings! I’m more of a knitter, but when I saw the Sue Ellen pocket shawl, I knew I had to try it. The shawl is a scrumptious blend of silky goodness with a light rhythm, and a delicious drape. For anyone who wants a project that you can’t wait to come home to, this is it. Get ready for a flowy, cozy hug around your shoulders.
Another beautiful pattern that is in my retirement stash. Thank you for everything you offer.
Fantastic yarn! Easy to work with..
The yarn is soft with beautiful colors!! I love to feel it in my hands.
Fun, easy pattern. A true joy to make.
Very fun and easy pattern. I super joy to make. Will be making more but in smaller gauge depending on the yarn. Lots of options.
Pattern soo easy to follow & to download free with many thank to chandi & Alltwen team at expression fibre arts x
Almost done with this shawl. I learned new skills and the pattern repeat made it a great project to take with you to waiting rooms and long car rides. I used a gradient yarn I picked up in Alaska. Started the pockets and the single crochet pattern changes the yarn pattern so l may need to change the pocket.
I am making this project and loving it. For a long time I have waited for a scarf with pockets and now i have one. Thank you very much. I am very grateful ❤

Love it! Perfect! Finished one and adapting pattern for smaller gauge and thinner yarn.
I really enjoyed crocheting the beautiful pattern. The wrap is simple and graceful with deep pockets.

Its gonna be beautiful, will be a awesome gift
Working on this project and so far it’s been great the stitch is easy and beautiful on the main part of the pattern and it the rest is the same then this would make a wonderful gift.
It’s a beautiful shawl and done in a way that even a beginner like me can attempt. Thank you!
I absolutely love this pattern. It was clearly written and works up quickly into a beautiful shawl. The pockets are nice and deep the way I like and although I had never done the ribbing on the edge in this manner, I found it simple to do.
I haven't had a chance to start the project yet. I have read the instructions and they seemed easy to follow.
Never fails .. always awesome
This pattern is very well written and easy to follow.
