Any size that is appropriate for the yarn selected. Refer to the tag/label for the recommended sizes.

SKILL LEVEL:

Some cable experience is helpful, but not necessary. Top down construction requires no advanced finishing skills. Entire cardigan is knit carrying 2 strands together. Simple yarn overs create the buttonholes.

Notes From the Designer:

The feelings of Fall were the inspiration for this cardigan. The colors reflect the transformation of the trees from summer greens to rich autumn reds and yellows. Designed in a lightweight wool, it’s perfect for those crisp, cool days.

The cardigan is knit top down, allowing for some size adjustment as you go. Two strands of sport weight yarn are held together throughout, creating a “marled” fabric. Simple cables and yarn overs create the buttonholes, allowing for a wide variety of button placement. Designed to fall between the waist and high hip, the length may be easily adjusted to suit.

  • This cardigan uses a marling technique. Two strands of yarn are held together, sometimes the same color and sometimes two different colors.

  • Short rows are worked using the German Short Row method.

  • The cardigan may be made longer, by adding more buttonholes before beginning the twisted rib. Be sure to determine button placement before determining how many rows to add.

I picked this at tern for its simplicity and the yarn. I am waiting to receive the yarn to knit it. At that point I will update this review.

A different yarn

I made Sweetgum with pearlescent worsted (gorgeous yarn!) rather than two twisted sport held together. It turned out beautiful except that the sleeves were too small in circumference. I finally found one person with skinnier than usual arms and gave it to her. If I make this pattern again especially with that yarn, I will cast on more stitches under the arm. And, I will not make it with pearlescent yarn, but with a yarn that has more wool and nylon and less silk. It would be nice to have this pattern adjusted for a DK or worsted yarn.

Recently completed this lovely sweater. I used the colors as recommended and am very pleased. The pattern was very easy to follow and worked up quickly. It was to be a Christmas gift for my mother, but I was so excited about how beautifully it turned out that I've already given it to her. Christmas in July!
