Warm and Toasty

$5.00

For each of the 2 larger sizes, this pattern uses 2 skeins of our Resilient Sock Yarn in colorway: Firekissed. Choose any color you like, though. For the child size, only one skein is needed. You'll need a US Size H hook (5.00 mm).

Notes From the Designer:

Mittens are my favorite things to crochet. I do not like to be cold and winters where I live (in the Midwest) can be very cold and brittle. I am warm when my hands are warm. I also like to be stylish while being warm, so began designing mittens for myself about 6 years ago. When Chandi asked me to make a family set of mittens, I was very excited.

The simple design for this set is centered around the classic look of a basic mitten with natural texture created by the half double crochet stitch. I wanted to keep the basic design and prefer a smaller looking cuff with the main focus on the mitten itself. To insure the mitten was the main feature, I chose to use a 3-round textured cuff using the front post double crochet stitch to imitate the look of a knitted ribbing.

I love the feel and stitch definition of the Resilient Sock yarn, but wanted a warmer design for the mittens, so I chose to use two strands together. This added thickness and warmth while enhancing the natural stitch definition of the sock yarn.

I hope you enjoy making these mittens as much as I have enjoyed designing them!

•Simple mittens designed to keep your entire family warm in cold weather season.

•Instructions included for three sizes: Child Size, Women's/Small Adult (shown in the photos), and Men's/Large Adult.

•Pattern is worked from the bottom of the cuff up.

•The mitten cuffs feature a small ribbed edging.

•Mittens are made with two strands of Resilient Sock Yarn held together for added warmth.

Warm and Toasty Family Set Crochet Mitten Pattern
5 Stars

I've made 5 pairs of these now and LOVE the process of making them! They were the perfect quick project for family xmas gifts and I plan to make more for friends and for myself. I loved working with the double-stranded sock yarn, it creates a really solid, warm fabric. I did add some extra rounds to the mitten top before beginning the decreases as they seemed to need a little more length. This is a perfect pattern for anyone who's newer to crochet and wants to branch out and start making something other than a scarf or a hat, and they're really fast to complete!

For the most part, I love this pattern, but I did make some modifications. The adult small proceed to be too small for my 11 year old son, so I changed to a tuned cuff and combined the stitch counts to a blend between the adult small and large patterns. It was a very well written pattern and really modified to meet my needs. Currently working on a second set of mittens as a Christmas gift as they worked up quickly.

Adorable!
