Notes from the Designer:

The name of this pattern, Bluegrass, is inspired by the texture and colors of the Blue Grass Guppy. The sleeve texture reminds me of the guppy's scaled body, and the body texture reminds me of the guppy's smooth, yet textured fins!

This simple, yet fun-to-knit sweater pattern is designed to keep your warmth and comfort in mind, as it is knit with yarn held double and has 6" (15 cm) of positive ease. These aspects combined allow for an oversized and comforting fit that is perfect for cold winters or even when you just want to snuggle up in something that you made! The sweater is knit top-down in the round and is easily adjustable for body and sleeve length by doing more or less repeats of the pattern. The body does not have any shaping, but the sleeves are tapered.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a video tutorial showing how to knit the special stitches and cables found in this pattern.
  • The sweater is worked top-down in the round. It is meant to be worn oversized with 6" (15 cm) of positive ease, but if you want less ease, you can size down once. If you size down more than once, the armholes may become too small.
  • The neck is a folded neckline. I recommend folding down the neck and stitching it together a few rounds after completing the short rows.
  • The increases for the body and sleeves will stop at different times. When this happens, keep working in pattern, without increases, for the part no longer being increased.
  • As you're knitting, the sleeve gauge may be slightly fewer rows than needed if you're a tight knitter. However, the sleeves should stretch out when you block the sweater due to the weight of the sleeves and stretchiness of Superwash Merino Wool.
  • Before starting, I recommend that you go through the pattern and highlight all the instructions for your specific size. There are many instructions that are specifically for individual sizes, so it may save you time later.
  • Using regular lifelines throughout is encouraged. Click here to watch a tutorial.
  • You can choose to work twisted stitches or cables.
