Notes from the Designer:
I created Field Flowers as a statement shawl. This design is a perfect fit for an elegant bride walking across a flower field on an outstanding, Spring wedding day or is meant to add that extra bit of elegance to any special occasion outfit.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video tutorial showing how to work the flowers featured in this pattern.
- Most rows begin with a ssc, which counts as a dc throughout the pattern.
- Small beads are used to create more texture and interest at the centers of the flowers. Beginning with a sufficiently long starting tail will help to secure the beads before weaving it in.
- The flowers are worked in the round, always moving in the same direction. However, pay close attention to which side (RS/BACK) the stitches are worked into. Most odd rounds tack chains behind the petals to provide a foundation to work the next round of petals.
- To avoid an obvious color-block line in the flower portion, alternate as follows: one flower skein A, three flowers skein B. You could also alternate one-one, but the one-three option will leave only one partial skein at the end (as skein B will be entirely used).
- The leaves are worked in rounds. The only “turn” will be to work back through the same starting chains but in the opposite direction. See diagram.
- Gauge isn’t crucial, but will affect yardage. Nearly all of Color C will be used. If you are concerned about running out too early, you can remove Rows 9-10 of Part 4.
