What Makes This Cowl So Awesome

•It's an easy 4-row repeat. You can memorize it in a snap. Wonderful for knitting while chatting or traveling. A great pattern for knit night!

It's quick to make. One skein and done. Boom. If you frequently get bored with knitting projects, you don't have to worry about that with this little beauty. It knits up in a snap and even if you decide to bind off early before using up the whole skein, you still have a usable cowl to wear.

You don't have to worry about running out of yarn. Yup. So true. I love designing patterns like this. You can stop early, or use another skein and keep going, making a larger cowl! Up to you.

It's gorgeous to wear. The subtle shimmer from the silk in the yarn, the plumpness of the soft merino wool and the swirling spiral pattern just make for a visually-appealing accessory that will go with endless outfits.

•It's reversible. Hurray! Wear it inside out or outside in and it'll look the same. No ugly inside to worry about.

•It's inspired by the sea. Does it get better than that? The color, the swirling design and the general ease of the pattern are intended to relax you, soothe you and allow you feel at peace while knitting and wearing.

It uses size US 9 (5.5mm) circular needles and is great for beginners to advanced-level knitters! You only need to know how to knit and purl. Verrrry simple.

You'll receive a digital file only (instantly downloadable as a PDF) and won't be shipped anything. Please allow a few minutes for the download link to be emailed to you. I was looking for something easy to work on during the holidays that didn’t require a lot of concentration. This fit the bill. I knitted it using shattered glass luster worsted & really love how it knitted up.

Swirling Sea - "In the Cabana" (Pearlescent Worsted)
5 Stars

This pattern is absolutely suitable for beginners and very well written. Only the stitch marker for the round transition is not mentioned, but very helpful when working, because here the pattern changes. Only knit and purl stitches are used and offset one stitch to the left over each of the four pattern rows. So a cozy knitting on the go for example while waiting, in a short break or even in front of the TV is guaranteed, because you can interrupt the work at any time within 4 stitches (stitch repeat). What I also really like about this pattern is that I don't have to worry about running out of yarn, as I can finish the work at any time. It is also easy to customize the width and length. I worked this tutorial with Pearlescent Worsted in the color "In the Cabana".

This pattern is absolutely beginner-friendly and very well written. Only the stitch marker for the round transition is not mentioned, but it is very helpful when working because the pattern changes here. Only knit and purl stitches are used and are shifted one stitch to the left across the four rows of the pattern. This guarantees comfortable knitting on the go, for example when waiting, taking a short break or even in front of the TV, since you can interrupt your work at any time with just a few stitches (4). What I also really like about this pattern is that I don't have to worry about running out of yarn because I can finish the work at any time. An individual adjustment of the width and length is also easily possible. I worked this pattern with Pearlescent Worsted in the shade "In the Cabana".

I used finger weight yarn with a US 10 circular knitting needle since it was a gift for my son's girlfriend and they live in Hawaii. I used 2 different colors dark grey and light grey . Hope she loves it as much as I loved. Knitting it! The pattern was so easy for a knitter like me that just started less than a year ago and it also my FIRST project in finger weight yarn!!! Recommend this pattern!!! SO EASY AND FAST! ✨

I love the swirly design of this pattern. It was so easy to make and it looks beautiful. I used a shiny grey yarn and a baby pink yarn. I can't wait to wear it in the fall.

Looks great, but a question
5 Stars

I haven't started knitting this yet. I have the right size needles but don't know what size Addi cord to use. 24"? I've noticed before that Chandi doesn't always include the cord length to go with the circular needle size, and it really matters to a beginner!

this turned out beautiful. i love the spiral. and it is great to bring along to knit night, waiting rooms, etc. as always, Chandi writes a good pattern. more than this? i would only request a cord length to go with cowl patterns, mine do not seem to Ever finish the size in the pattern photo .

Love a pattern that's easy to memorize (4-row repeat) but looks more complicated. I wanted a longer cowl so I'm using 2 skeins of the silk , Nautical and the amazing jewel tones Candy Shop. I'm just alternating rows with the 2 colors. I was going to keep this cowl for myself but I think it will go to my daughter. She's allergic to most scratchy wools but this is the softest silk-wool blend I've ever knit with.

Yeah, my yarn just arrived.

I just received the yarn Friday. ..Sand and Surf. The yarn is beautiful. Love the way the colors blend together. It has a wonderful feel to the touch. Beautiful colorway.Chandi. can't wait to knit with it. I have so much yarn from Chandi that I don’t know where to start. I am addicted to yarn from Expression Fiber Arts!! Carolee

I'm sure it will be Great as always

I knooked this pattern (knitting with a crochet hook). I have made several items this way but this was only my second knitting pattern that I used the knook for. I loved it! The pattern was very easy to understand and follow. I learned how to work in the round, I learned how to tink, I learned what the knitting and purling stitches really look like and how to "read" the stitches and rows. The item I made is identical to the knitted versions. I love this cowl and can't wait to try more knitting patterns with my knook!

Easy once you get going...

Sigh. I had to start this cowl over four times! Mostly to user error. I used the wrong size needles at first. Then, when I got the right size needles, the circumference was too large, so I had to pull off, go buy the same size circular needle at a smaller circumference. Then...I would really recommend stitch markers at every 10 stitches, doubling up or placing a different color where Chandi recommends placing the marker. It has just helped me to keep my count and my sanity. I am a very beginner knitter, and once I got on the right needles and used stitch markers...my life was exponentially easier. I love the way this pattern does indeed swirl and I am excited to finish it. I'm trying to do three before mother's day (eek!). I bought three skeins of her silk worsted weight yarn (hot buttered rum, pink pearl, and sterling silver). I'm working the hot buttered rum right now which is a multiple colorway and not my style (but my mother-in-law will love it) and it is turning out really pretty. My only concern is that I have never blocked before and the pattern calls for that...so I am wondering how that will change the shape, look and feel...but I'm gonna give it a try anyway. This pattern is easy to follow and the silk merino yarn is a little more difficult to work with than super stretchy wool, but nothing that you can't get used to. Hopefully, this was helpful and I am thankful for these free, beginner friendly patterns and it keeps me buying Chandi's beautiful yarn. :)

Perfect for handpainted & multi-color yarns

This is a great pattern for those "I-can't -resist" skeins that you just have to have because they are beautiful. I have a basket of said skeins decorating my living room and they are being put into balls so I can do another one of these cowls right away. The pattern is really well written and easy to follow. if you're a beginner and want to try something other than knit and purl I would encourage you to give this pattern a go. I am even thinking of holding two strands of sport or lace weight together and knitting it up that way. Its such a versatile pattern the possibilities are endless.

Brilliant!

Having been a professional seamstress for many years, I am drawn to this pattern because the finished product, like those knit with the linen stitch, has a look and feel of fabric. Although I haven't knit the cowl yet (I plan to this weekend), I have read over the pattern and am pleased by the way it is written, simply and with straight-forward instructions.
