Notes From the Designer:
The calming blues and exceptionally soft yarn used in this shawl have me yearning for those cool mornings when a light layer of warmth and a cup of tea is the perfect way to start the day. I can just imagine sitting on a back porch, gazing across a lake as the early mist begins to rise.
This triangular shawl begins in the center and works outward in rows made of simple combinations of single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet stitches. The border design utilizes three different stitch patterns. The first combines popcorn stitches and single crochet worked in light blue, set between simple rows of grey, providing a nice contrast in both color and texture. For a smaller shawl, stop after this section. For the full size shawl, continue on to crochet a mesh formed with dc2tog, chain and single crochet.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video where we demonstrate the shell stitch, popcorn stitch, how to get started, and how to work the final section.
- Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect yardage and size.
- Written instructions and charts are provided.
- Approximate yardages for each section are given so that the crocheter may choose how many colors to use and customize the shawl.
- Stop after Section 6 for a smaller shawl.
- When instructions refer to “same st,” it means working again in the stitch just completed.

Beautiful piece!
Love this shawl! It was a pleasure to work and resulted in a beautiful piece I know I will treasure!

This pattern is easy to use and is very flexible. This is the first crochet pattern that I read, worked on, and finished. I was properly guided by it even if I made a few mistakes. With it, retracing steps is easy.

Wilona experience
This was my first ever big scale crochet project. I used a local yarn to make this which is a 6 ply fine cotton yarn in mocha. The pattern is easy to follow, although sometimes I lose count (but that's me). Once you get the "principle" behind the repeats and increases, you can easily make "ad-libs" and make your own customization. I did more Vs because I like how they looked :) I plan to make another using different colors. Thanks Chandi and Team for these free patterns.

Stuck need help
This pattern is absolutely beautiful and the instructions so far were easy to follow. I'm stuck at row 26 (R26-R28) though. When starting to repeat row 24 as instructed, I come across a chain 2 on the previous row, which for R24 is a chain 1... And I'm not sure how to go from here. Do I skip chain 2 as if it was chain 1 and go into the next stitch? Or do I make a stitch into the chain space? Please someone help :)

Wilona Shawl
It's almost shawl season here and I can't wait to make this shawl. Thank you for the beautiful patterns and yarn.
Wilona
This project is lovely. I am using a wool from my local yarn shop and it's working up wonderfully. The pattern is well written and easily understood. I'm not quite finished but it's working up quickly.
Winona
Haven't made it yet but it is a beautiful pattern.
Wilona shawl
The pattern is easy to follow and well written. Even though the stitches are basic - good for beginners - it is the way they are pulled together that makes this shawl shine. I didn't use the recommended yarns, as I already had a variegated wool yarn that was begging for a project. I will certainly be making other items from Expression Fibers and am saving up to buy some of their amazing yarns!
Wilona shawl
The pattern is clear and easy to follow, even for a beginner. It is all common stitches - it's just how they are pulled together that makes the shawl look wonderful and airy. I did not use the recommended yarns, as I had a variegated wool yarn already in my stash that was begging for a project.
Wilona
As usual the pattern looks fabulous. Not knitted it yet but will get to it.

Haven’t started this project yet, but gave read over the pattern. It seems very well written so I don’t think I’ll have any problems once I start. It will be my next project to start once I finish a few WIP. I’m very excited to see the finished product.
