£4.82

FINISHED SIZE: 66” x 36” and 19” at the deepest point (168 x 92 x 49 cm)

MATERIALS:

Expression Fiber Arts Blossom Fingering Yarn

Shown in colors: A (Drupe), B (Deliquescent), C (Sepal), D (Showy), and E (Cultivar)

Approximately 1080 yds/988 m [57 yds/52 m (color A), 156 yds/143 m (color B), 279 yds/255 m (color C), 372 yds/340 m (color D), and 216 yds/198 m (color E)] were used for the sample.

Hook:

US size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

SKILL LEVEL:

Adventurous Beginner: This pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to explore colorwork. Skills/concepts include increases, decreases, spike stitches, and changing colors at the end of rows.

Notes From the Designer:

Zakret is the Polish word for bend. This shawl curves gently as it grows, creating an effortlessly wearable shape. While you could make this shawl in just two colors, the simple pattern repetition shows off multiple colors beautifully. Select two colors that have a bit of contrast with each other, and then as you progress, deepen each color for a fade effect. Or just choose color combinations that make you happy! You never work more than one color at a time, which makes this shawl a perfect introduction to easy colorwork. Since you start at the tip, you can customize the size by working as many or as few repeats as you wish.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial demonstrating different sections of this pattern.
  • Gauge is not crucial but could affect overall size and yardage
  • The stitch count increases by 1 stitch every right-side row. The decrease and increase stitches on wrong-side rows counteract each other, so the stitch count remains the same as the previous row. This creates the overall curved shape of the shawl.
  • As your shawl grows, you may want to use stitch markers to verify your stitch count.
  • Carry the unused color loosely up the side, and catch the unused yarn into each turning chain to anchor the float.

Zakret Summer CAL
5 Stars

I loved this pattern. The single crochet stitches mixed with the spike stitches were so relaxing. I started learning to crochet single crochet stitches without looking. The recommended yarn, blossom fingering, was wonderful to work with and so soft.
