SKILL LEVEL:

Beginner: Perfect for those who are just beginning or have crocheted a project or two. Stitches include single crochet, double crochet, and half-double crochet. Skills/concepts include working in back loops and color changes.

Notes From the Designer:

Keep it cozy with a thick, sumptuous cowl. Create rich texture and shape with just three basic crochet stitches worked in back loops. Add stripes by changing colors every two rows, carrying unused colors up the side. A single seam completes the circle, or you can simply crochet the first and last rows together. With a larger circumference at the shoulders and a smaller circumference at the head, this protective cone is reminiscent of the beautifully striated, conical shells of conidae, or cone snails.

  • Click the Videos tab to learn how to crochet this cowl.
  • To adjust the size of the cowl, you may add or subtract repeats of rows 2 and 3, ending on a row 3.
  • When changing colors, carry unused color up the side, twisting yarns as needed. Do not break off colors unless instructed to do so.
